My instruction is right on target.
I begin each project by asking, "What do learners need to DO?" I place learners in a role that requires them to make decisions, apply what they are learning, and observe the consequences of their choices. I support learners with frequent feedback, hints, and supplemental references.
Examples from my past projects include:
- To learn a new computer system, students perform typical job tasks on simulated screens. This course was shown to be effective at all four levels of Kirkpatrick's training evaluation and won the Donald Bullock Award for an Outstanding Human Performance Technology Intervention from the Potomac Chapter of the International Society for Performance Improvement.
- To learn about microfinance, students click on employees of microfinance organizations and hear about challenges they are facing.
